Ever stopped in front of a new commercial coffee machine and felt intimidated? It happens to the best of us. Whether you’ve recently started working for a new company, or whether your office breakroom has gone through a makeover, the first few times can feel confusing when you’re faced with a new coffee machine. To learn how to use an office coffee maker like a pro, there are a few tips and tricks you can refer to. While every coffee machine is different and has a particular set of instructions, there are certain elements that you can look for to ease into the new process.

It’s true, there is no “one size fits all” solution, however, the type of machine you have can help us narrow it down to certain components. For example, if you have a bean to cup office coffee machine (they are easy to detect based on the visible beans on top of your machine), you can follow these 3 steps.

#1) Understanding the different sections of the machine

First and foremost, you will want to study your machine. Carefully look at all the different components and understand the purpose of each section. Most of the time, the beans will be at the top of the machine, the interactive screen in the middle, and the cup stand and tray will be at the bottom. This conventional positioning of each part can easily be discerned as soon as you take a deeper look at your coffee machine.

Once you understand what each section is for, you will intuitively know where to start, and that is, of course, a cup! Grab your favorite mug, or a disposable cup of your preferred format and place it on the machine’s tray. Next, move on to the interactive screen. If it’s idle, tap anywhere to turn it back on.

On the HLF 5700 Fresh Milk machine, the center of the tray is where the cup must be placed. As you can see in the image below, you can naturally know where it goes just by taking a good look at the coffee maker.

#2) Follow the instructions on the interactive screen

Most modern bean to cup coffee equipment include an interactive screen that allows you to select and customize your coffee beverage with the touch of a finger. These screens feature detailed guidelines and images to guide you intuitively in preparing your drink. From selecting the type of recipe, to customizing your beverage to your unique preferences, and finally, launching the preparation, you’ll be walked through every step with clear instructions on the screen.

Our best-seller, the HLF 5700 Fresh Milk, is a perfect example of a bean to cup coffee machine with an interactive screen. The screen is located in the upper center of the machine. The recipe menu is displayed as a main screen to allow users to select from a variety of beverages. Once you tap on your desired recipe, you will be asked to select the type of beans, the format, and sometimes, the type of milk (if you have dual milk options installed). Before you know it, your drink will start pouring, and you can enjoy it within a few seconds!

For example, at Servomax, we make sure every single installation is accompanied by thorough training on how to use, how to maintain and how to clean your office coffee equipment. Moreover, we have a variety of guides and manuals that can be used as signs around your coffee station to assist your team in using the machine properly.

At the end of the day, there’s one thing to keep in mind… practice makes perfect! The more coffees you make, the easier it will get.
